Ill health retirement and pensions advice

Health Management employs one of the largest pensions medicine teams in the UK, led by Dr Lisa Birrell FFOM. We support more than 300 Government and private sector employers with ill-health retirement and pension advice for their employees.

Advising on ill-health retirement applications can be a challenging process requiring clinical review and a detailed understanding of specific pension scheme rules. Cases are handled sensitively by our expert team, and can be expedited where there is a terminal diagnosis.

Health Management’s pensions team is experienced in supporting a range of pension schemes, including the Civil Service Pension Schemes, Local Government Pensions Schemes, the Railway Pension Schemes and a large number of private schemes.

It is important that each case is considered on its own merits. Cases are submitted digitally using our case management system, which then lets you track progress from the point of triage to the sourcing of evidence and the formal advice letter.

We appoint Independent Registered Medical Practitioners (IRMP) to review the medical evidence. Where appropriate, we will take medical reports from GPs or consulting specialists.

Our Occupational Physicians provide clear and easy-to-understand advice which is linked to supporting evidence and reasoning on individual cases.

This allows an informed decision to be made on the best-available clinical evidence, in close consideration of the scheme eligibility rules.
